J.C. Otiono

HELLO AND WELCOME.

My name is Jennifer Otiono and I am a Ph.D. student in Information Science broadly interested in Human-AI Interaction. I am a member of the Citizen’s and Technology (CAT)🐾 Lab , where I’m advised by J. Nathan Matias.

I came to Cornell after earning a degree in Biological Sciences from Wellesley College, in the Spring of 2018. After graduating, I worked as a Research Fellow in the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) Lab, advised by Orit Shaer.

I was born in Lagos, Nigeria, and raised in Boston, MA! For fun, I metalsmith and write creatively.

My work has been supported by the National GEM Consortium.

I will be serving as Vice President(VP) for the Information Science Graduate Student Association (ISGSA)! In this role, I will be learning more about the challenges that grad students face, supporting the co-Presidents in their roles, and managing the IS Ph.D. calendar.

I have been selected as a Cornell Summer School on Designing Technology for Social Impact incoming IS PhD participant! The summer research workshop intends to build a cohort of up-and-coming researchers, provide experience on topics related to the social impact of information technology, and provide research and career-building opportunities. It will be held virtually from June 7-11.
